Overview

A 40 W UV unit for a whole room, rather than a handheld you have to aim.

The UV tubes draw flying insects in and the grid does the rest, so it works overnight and while the room is empty.

It hangs from a fitting or stands on a flat surface, which is what makes it usable in a kitchen, a bakery, a cafe or a workshop.

Nothing is sprayed, which is the reason it gets used around food preparation.

Coverage depends on the room. Treat the manufacturer's figure as an area guide rather than a promise, and place it away from the doors people use.

Delivery across Canada in 5 to 7 days. It is free on orders of $60 or more, and a flat $22 below that.

You can cancel within 14 days of receiving your order without giving a reason, under regulation 20 of S.I. No. 484 of 2013, which implements the EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU. You then have a further 14 days to send the goods back, and you pay the cost of returning them.

A screen cut to your own measurements is made to your specification, so regulation 13(1)(c) removes the cancellation right once we have started making it. A standard size you cut down yourself at home keeps the full right until you cut it.

If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described we put it right at no cost to you, return postage included, under the Consumer Rights Act 2022.

How it works in a real doorway

Electric Bug Zapper

This is the fixed version of the problem the handheld swatters solve. A racket deals with the insect in front of you. A plug-in unit deals with a room, and it keeps doing it while the room is empty, which is the reason kitchens and cafes use them.

Electric Bug Zapper

It works by attraction. The UV tubes pull flying insects towards the unit and they meet the grid on the way in. That makes placement most of the job: put it away from the door people walk through, away from a competing light source, and somewhere the tray can be emptied.

Electric Bug Zapper

Coverage claims for units like this are worth reading carefully. The figure is a guide to the AREA a 40 W unit is built for in open air, not a promise about a particular room, and walls, partitions and other lights all cut it down. In a large or awkward space, two smaller units placed well beat one big one placed badly.

Electric Bug Zapper

It uses no chemicals, which is the practical argument for it in a food space: nothing is sprayed near preparation surfaces and there is nothing to air out. It is mains powered with an exposed grid, so it is not a device for a room with small children, and it should be unplugged before the tray is cleaned.

Got questions?

Frequently asked

How does an electric bug zapper actually work?

UV tubes give off light that flying insects are drawn towards. On the way in they meet an electrified grid, and that is the noise you hear. There is nothing sprayed and nothing to refill.

How powerful is this one?

It draws 40 W. That is the commercial end of the domestic range, which is why it turns up in kitchens and cafes as well as houses.

What area does it cover?

Coverage figures for a unit of this size describe what it is built for in open air. Walls, partitions and other light sources all reduce it, so treat the number as a guide and judge it by your own room. In a large or awkward space, two units placed well beat one placed badly.

Where should I put it?

Away from the door people use, away from a competing light source, and somewhere you can reach the tray. Insects have to be drawn past you to the unit, so putting it beside the door you want protected works against you.

How high should it hang?

Around head height or a little above is the usual advice for a room. Higher than that and it competes with your ceiling lights; much lower and it is in the way.

Can I stand it on a surface instead of hanging it?

Yes. It is designed for both, so it will sit on a shelf or a worktop as well as hang from a fitting.

Is it safe to use in a kitchen?

It is used in kitchens, bakeries and cafes because it puts no chemicals near food. Keep it away from the surfaces where food is actually prepared, so nothing that meets the grid can fall onto them.

Is it safe around children?

It is mains powered with an exposed grid, so it is not a device for a room where small children are unsupervised. Hang it out of reach, or use a different method in that room.

Is it safe around pets?

Same answer as for children. A cat that can reach the grid should not be able to, so place it accordingly.

Does it use chemicals?

No. Nothing is sprayed, nothing is vaporised and there is nothing to air out afterwards, which is the practical reason it gets chosen over a spray or a plug-in.

Does it smell?

The unit itself does not. Insects meeting the grid can produce a faint smell, which is one more reason to empty the tray regularly rather than let it fill.

Is it noisy?

The unit is silent in normal running. The snap when an insect meets the grid is audible, which some people find reassuring and others find distracting in a bedroom.

Can I use it outdoors?

It is an indoor unit. Use it on a covered porch or in an outbuilding if you like, but it must stay dry and out of the weather.

Will it work on flies as well as mosquitoes?

It attracts flying insects generally, which includes flies, moths, midges and mosquitoes. It does nothing about crawling insects, and it does nothing about a fly that has already settled on your worktop.

Should I leave it on all the time?

In a commercial kitchen or a shop, yes, that is how they are used. At home most people run it in the evening and overnight through the season.

What does it cost to run?

It draws 40 W, so running it continuously is roughly the same as a couple of old-style light bulbs. Running it only in the evening costs a fraction of that.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it first. Empty the tray, brush the grid clean with a dry brush, and wipe the housing. Never rinse it under a tap.

How often should I empty the tray?

Whenever it stops looking empty. In the worst of the season that can be weekly; outside it, far less.

Do the tubes need replacing?

UV tubes lose output over time even while they still light up, so effectiveness falls off before the tube fails. If it stops attracting insects after a couple of seasons, the tube is the first thing to look at.

Does it work in daylight?

Less well. It is competing with the sun, so it does its best work at dusk and after dark, or in a room without much natural light.

Will it interfere with anything else?

No. It is an ordinary mains appliance with a UV lamp.

Does it come with a plug?

It is supplied ready to plug in. If anything about the supplied plug does not suit your outlet, contact us before you use it rather than adapting it yourself.

Is it certified to a particular standard?

We do not publish a certification for this unit, so we do not claim one. If a certification matters for your setting, for example a commercial food premises with its own requirements, ask us before ordering and we will tell you what we can confirm.

How is it different from the electric swatter?

The swatter deals with the insect in front of you. This deals with a room, unattended, including while you are asleep. Plenty of people have both.

How is it different from a screen?

A screen keeps insects out of the room. A zapper deals with the ones already inside. If you are opening windows all summer, a screen is the thing that reduces the problem and this is what handles the rest.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is free across Canada on orders of $60 or more, and $22 flat below that. Express delivery is available at checkout for $22, including on orders that already qualify for free delivery.

How long does delivery take?

Allow 5 to 7 days.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to change your mind, as long as it comes back unused and in its original packaging. You pay the return shipping.

What if it arrives damaged?

Email us with your order number and we will replace it or refund it, and we pay the return shipping on faulty goods.

Who do I contact with a question?

Email the team and you will normally hear back within one business day.

Keep Your Home Bug-Free with an Electric Bug Zapper

Nothing can ruin a pleasant evening more quickly than a swarm of mosquitoes or other pesky insects. An electric bug zapper is an efficient and effective way to keep your home and outdoor spaces free from unwanted pests. With a large mosquito killer or a plug-in pest control lamp, you can enjoy your time indoors and outdoors without constantly swatting away bugs. In this blog post, we'll explore the benefits of using an electric bug zapper and provide tips on choosing the right one for your needs.

Why Choose an Electric Bug Zapper?

Effective Insect Elimination

Powerful Performance with a Large Mosquito Killer

One of the primary advantages of an electric bug zapper is its ability to quickly and effectively eliminate insects. These devices use ultraviolet (UV) light to attract mosquitoes, flies, and other flying bugs, drawing them into an electric grid that instantly kills them. A large mosquito killer is particularly effective for outdoor spaces, patios, and large rooms, providing coverage over a wide area. This powerful performance ensures that your home remains bug-free, allowing you to relax and enjoy your surroundings without the annoyance of insects.

Safe and Chemical-Free Pest Control

Protect Your Home with a Plug-in Pest Control Lamp

An electric bug zapper offers a safe and chemical-free method of controlling insects, making it a great choice for homes with children, pets, or anyone sensitive to chemical sprays and pesticides. A plug-in pest control lamp uses only electricity to eliminate bugs, avoiding the need for potentially harmful chemicals. This makes it a safer alternative for maintaining a pest-free environment without risking your family's health or the environment. With an electric bug zapper, you can enjoy effective pest control without the use of toxic substances.

Convenient and Low Maintenance

Hassle-Free Operation with a Plug-in Pest Control Lamp

Another significant benefit of an electric bug zapper is its convenience and low maintenance. Simply plug in your plug-in pest control lamp, and it will begin attracting and eliminating insects automatically. Many models are designed with removable trays that collect dead bugs, making cleanup quick and easy. Additionally, large mosquito killers often come with long-lasting bulbs and durable construction, ensuring they continue to perform well over time with minimal maintenance. This hassle-free operation makes electric bug zappers an ideal solution for busy households or anyone looking for a low-maintenance pest control option.

Types of Electric Bug Zappers

Indoor Electric Bug Zapper

Ideal for Inside Your Home

An indoor electric bug zapper is designed to be used inside your home, providing effective insect control in kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, and other indoor spaces. These plug-in pest control lamps are typically compact and easy to place in any room, offering discreet and efficient bug control without taking up too much space. An indoor large mosquito killer can help maintain a comfortable and bug-free environment throughout your home, ensuring that you and your family can enjoy a peaceful, insect-free space.

Outdoor Electric Bug Zapper

Perfect for Patios and Gardens

For those who enjoy spending time outdoors, an outdoor electric bug zapper is an excellent option for keeping your patio, garden, or backyard free from pests. A large mosquito killer designed for outdoor use is built to withstand various weather conditions and provide wide-area coverage, making it perfect for larger outdoor spaces. These plug-in pest control lamps are often equipped with durable casings and weather-resistant features, ensuring they continue to perform effectively even in challenging environments. An outdoor electric bug zapper is ideal for barbecues, outdoor parties, and quiet evenings on the porch.

Portable Electric Bug Zapper

Great for On-the-Go Pest Control

A portable electric bug zapper offers a versatile solution for those who need effective pest control on the go. These compact plug-in pest control lamps are lightweight and easy to carry, making them perfect for camping trips, picnics, and other outdoor activities. Despite their smaller size, many portable large mosquito killers provide powerful insect elimination, ensuring you can enjoy your time outdoors without the nuisance of bugs. With a portable electric bug zapper, you can take reliable pest control wherever you go.

How to Choose the Right Electric Bug Zapper

Consider Your Space

Find the Perfect Large Mosquito Killer for Your Needs

When choosing an electric bug zapper, it’s essential to consider the size and type of space where it will be used. For indoor use, a plug-in pest control lamp designed for small to medium-sized rooms may be sufficient. However, if you need pest control for a larger outdoor area, a large mosquito killer with greater coverage and durability will be more appropriate. Understanding your specific needs will help you select the right electric bug zapper to effectively protect your space from insects.

Evaluate Power and Coverage

Ensure Effective Pest Control with the Right Plug-in Pest Control Lamp

The power and coverage area of an electric bug zapper can significantly impact its effectiveness. Large mosquito killers are typically more powerful and can cover larger areas, making them suitable for outdoor spaces or expansive indoor environments. On the other hand, smaller plug-in pest control lamps may be more appropriate for confined indoor areas where less coverage is needed. Be sure to choose an electric bug zapper with adequate power and coverage to match your space and ensure optimal performance.

Look for Additional Features

Enhance Your Experience with Feature-Rich Large Mosquito Killers

Many electric bug zappers come with additional features that enhance their usability and convenience. Look for plug-in pest control lamps with features like removable collection trays for easy cleaning, energy-efficient bulbs for long-lasting performance, and safety grids to prevent accidental contact. Some large mosquito killers also come with UV lights that can be used for ambiance while providing effective bug control. Choosing an electric bug zapper with these features can enhance your overall experience and make maintaining a bug-free environment easier.

Conclusion

An electric bug zapper is a powerful and convenient tool for keeping your home and outdoor spaces free from insects. With effective insect elimination, chemical-free operation, and low maintenance, large mosquito killers and plug-in pest control lamps provide a reliable solution for maintaining a comfortable and bug-free environment. Whether you need an indoor zapper for your living room, an outdoor model for your patio, or a portable option for camping trips, there’s an electric bug zapper to suit your needs. Page summary

Electric Bug Zapper from Simple Screens Canada: a 40 W mains powered UV insect killer for indoor use, which can be hung from a fitting or stood on a flat surface. UV tubes attract flying insects towards an electrified grid, so the unit works unattended and overnight, which is why it is used in kitchens, bakeries, delicatessens, restaurants, workshops and homes. It uses no chemicals, so nothing is sprayed near food preparation surfaces. Coverage figures for units of this type describe the area the unit is built for in open air and are reduced by walls, partitions and competing light sources, so placement matters more than the headline number. The grid is exposed and mains powered: keep it away from small children and unplug it before cleaning the tray. Prices are in Canadian dollars and delivery is free across Canada over $60.
