This Privacy Policy explains how Simple Screens (a division of Caruso Consulting Co Ltd, "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you visit simplescreen.shop or buy from us. We handle your information in line with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and with the provincial privacy laws that apply where you live, including Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector as amended by Law 25, and the Personal Information Protection Acts in Alberta and British Columbia.
Who is responsible
The organisation responsible for your information is Caruso Consulting Co Ltd, trading as Simple Screens. Our Canadian address and our registered address are both in the footer of every page and on the About page. You can reach us about anything on this page, including a request to see what we hold, at theteam@customersupport.care.
What we collect and why
Order information. Your name, email address, delivery address, phone number and what you ordered. We need these to take payment, ship your order and deal with returns. By placing an order you consent to us using them for that. We never see or store your full card number: payments go through Stripe or PayPal, who handle the card data themselves.
Enquiry information. What you send us through a contact or quote form, so that we can answer you. Sending us the form is your consent to us replying to it.
Analytics information. Only if you agree. See the Cookie Policy for what is set and how to change your mind.
Marketing emails. We only send these if you asked for them. Under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) every one carries our identity and a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect within ten business days at the latest.
How consent works
Canadian privacy law runs on consent. You give it expressly when you tick a box or send us a form, and by implication when you place an order and we use your address to deliver it. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us, subject to what we still have to keep for legal and tax reasons. Withdrawing consent does not make what we did beforehand unlawful, and in some cases withdrawing it means we can no longer complete an order.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for six years, which is the period the Income Tax Act and the Excise Tax Act require us to keep business records. Enquiries that do not become orders are deleted once the matter is closed and there is no longer a reason to keep them.
Who we share it with
Only the parties needed to get your order to you and to run the site: our payment providers (Stripe, PayPal), our email provider, our delivery partners, and our hosting and analytics providers. We do not sell your information.
Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union, which means it may be accessible to the courts and authorities of those countries. Under PIPEDA's accountability principle we remain responsible for your information when it is handled by a supplier on our behalf, and we use contracts requiring them to protect it to a comparable standard.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and what we have done with it, and we will tell you. If something is wrong, you can ask us to correct it, and we will. You can withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.
To do any of that, email theteam@customersupport.care. We respond within 30 days, which is the period PIPEDA allows.
Being straight about the limits: PIPEDA does not give a general right to have your information erased or exported the way the GDPR does, so we do not promise either. Where a provincial law does give you more than the federal minimum, for example in Quebec, that law applies and we will follow it.
If you are not satisfied with how we have dealt with you, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca. Residents of Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia may complain to their provincial commissioner instead.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, payment pages are handled by our payment providers, and access to order information is limited to the people who need it to fulfil your order.
